Two Students Receive Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Co.

Two ASU undergraduate Physics and Astronomy students, Matthew Childers and Nikolai Hesterberg, have been chosen for Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) laboratories in Boulder Colorado. Mr. Hesterberg will be working with NIST scientists to use ultra-precise timing to test fundamental physics such as the theory of relativity and predictions of the speeds of neutrinos. Mr. Childers will be helping to characterize the power outputs of many commercial laser pointer products and to evaluate their safety. This year there were only 22 students chosen for the fellowship program in a national competitive proposal process with more than 200 applicants.
