Sophia Woznichak is an undergraduate student in the Physics and Astronomy department. Over the summer, she had her first research experience with Dr. Calamai. Sophia worked in his lab using an radio frequency ion trap to count the photons emitted from trapped ions. She said most of her summer was spent trying to repair the ion trap, but through that, she learned lots about optics and the chemical side of physics. From her experience, Sophia learned how to be a successful researcher.
