Walter C. Connolly

Walter C. Connolly was the first chair of the Department of Physics. He was a member of the faculty from 1963 to 1992. Dr. Connolly began his professional career as a professor of physics at the US Naval Academy where he taught for nine years. After working as a senior scientist at the University of Virginia, he came to Appalachian where he served as the chairperson for 11 years, and a full time professor for many years after.
