Transferring to Physics at Appalachian
Incoming transfer students can typically graduate within 2–3 years, depending on prior credits. To stay on track, we recommend meeting with a departmental advisor during transfer orientation to create a custom plan.
Recommended Course Preparation
To ensure you can graduate within four years total (including community college), aim to complete the following before transferring:
After 2 Years (Associate Degree):
Calculus I & II
Physics I & II (Algebra or Calculus-based*)
Note: These are prerequisites for our required intermediate courses (PHY 2010/2020).
After 1 Year:
Calculus I (Highly Recommended)
Physics I (Recommended)
Important: While we accept students without these credits, missing these prerequisites may require summer courses or additional semesters to finish on time.
Technical Requirements
Accepted Physics: Either Algebra-based (PHY 1123/1124) or Calculus-based (PHY 1170/1180).
Not Accepted: Conceptual Physics (PHY 1121/1122) does not satisfy major requirements.
